BREITLING CURTIS P-40 WARHAWK

Breitling, aviation and pilots
Breitling has been reputed around the world for its ties to aviation for nearly a century. The Swiss brand continues to build this reputation today evidenced by its release of three new Aviator 8 Curtiss Warhawk watches, a tribute to Curtiss Wright, the prestigious American aeronautical manufacturer and its famous fighter plane the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. The P-40 Warhawks, manufactured between 1938 and 1944, are now receiving a majestic tribute in the form of two chronographs, one of them with a manufacture Breitling Calibre 01 movement, and an understated three-hand model.

The Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Curtiss Warhawk is distinguished by its matte olive green dial. The contrasting sub-dials are 12-hour and 30-minute chronograph counters, and there is also a seconds sub-dial. The timepiece is powered by a manufacture Breitling Calibre 01, a mechanical movement developed in-house with a power reserve of up to 70 hours. Housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case, the case back features a transparent sapphire crystal with a Curtiss inscription and the image of an airborne P-40 Warhawk, whose design, with its shark’s mouth and colour scheme, is based on the characteristic paint job associated with the plane when it was piloted by the American Volunteer Group in the Chinese Air Force’s famed Flying Tigers unit.

Housed inside the Aviator 8 Chronograph 43 Curtiss Warhawk is the Breitling Calibre 13, a mechanical movement known for its stability and performance. It builds up a 42-hour power reserve and has a case back with the same design as the preceding model.

Meanwhile, the Aviator 8 Automatic 41 Curtiss Warhawk has a matte olive green dial and is paired with an olive green strap. It has a bi- directional rotating bezel with a distinctive red arrow and a red-tipped central seconds hand. Inside the DLC-coated stainless steel case is the Breitling Calibre 17 with a 40-hour power reserve. The case back is inscribed with the word Curtiss and a depiction of a P-40 Warhawk with the famous shark jaws painted on the nose of the aircraft.
